The aim of this martial arts club (School) is to develop happy well-motivated students according to their varying abilities, in a caring and stimulating learning environment, in partnership with the student. As well-trained Instructors and Coaches supported by the best available resources, we aim to promote intellectual, moral, social, physical and spiritual development. Students will thereby be prepared to derive maximum benefit from the skills they will be taught, and ultimately be able to give back to their families and the Community. They will achieve a high level of tolerance, control and restraint. This martial arts school's aim is to achieve all of this is in a safe, structured and organised environment, conducive of its students learning needs!
Much of the above requires both parents and/or student to understand that learning takes time and effort. The more we put in the more we get out. Please remember this when training takes a back seat. Dedication is needed and this takes time.
Quick fixes are not available in a traditional karate club. Black belts train towards earning the black belt and this journey can take anything from 3 years for a naturally gifted athlete to almost 5 years or longer for some. The average is four years.
A Freestyle syllabus is different and people have earned their Black belt in 2 years or less. Much depends on the amount of times per week a student can train/afford to train. The grading criteria and their attitude to training can and will dictate when a student is ready to grade. Not time alone. Please remember this as it is paramount with regard to training/grading. Avoid being jealous of others/looking over your shoulder. Concentrate on what you're doing.
Aims
The aim of this martial arts school is to develop happy well- motivated students according to their varying abilities, in a caring and stimulating learning environment, in partnership with the student.
Well-trained Instructors and Coaches are available to help you at each training location (dojo) we aim to promote intellectual, moral, social, physical and spiritual development.
Students will thereby be prepared to derive maximum benefit from the skills they will be taught, and ultimately be able to give back to their families and the Community as they progress. We share the knowledge with people who want to learn from us, each generation of martial artists do this to give the knowledge passed down the ability to survive. This is the martial arts way. Reborn each time we give a little of ourselves to another.
By doing this they students will achieve a high level of tolerance, control and restraint. This martial arts school’s aim is to achieve all of this is in a safe, structured and organised environment, conducive of its students learning needs!
Assessment
Assessment of the student’s progress and planning for their future learning is a continuous process from the day that they start martial arts and it is hoped that they will continue to make the progress of which they are capable. It is important that students are given activities which are challenging for them and the school.
Coaches and Instructors will make regular assessments as to the student’s progress so that they can be suitably challenged and supported appropriately. It is important that the student makes their best progress; this may be at a faster or slower pace compared to other students in the class. Whatever the rate of the student’s progress it will be equally valued.
It is important that the student comes arrives at the dojo in a happy positive frame of mind so they are able to enjoy their time at White Tiger karate.
We would rather have a student who is happy to attend and enjoy the lesson with other like-minded students, than one who is forced to attend and may disrupt others.

Discipline
Students who have good skills achieve a great deal more in life. Therefore our martial arts school promotes the idea that students should be encouraged to learn to make their own decisions and, whatever their age, learn how to relate to each other in a mature manner.
The rules of the Dojo reflect this; please ensure that these are read.
Also there are a few other basic rules to be applied:
Such as: We should call others by their preferred name
We should treat others as we would expect to be treated ourselves
We will not BULLY others. This will not be tolerated and can in severe cases result in expulsion of the student from the club.
It is important that the students at this school work together to ensure that the students come to the school with a positive attitude to learn and to socialise and make friends with the other students.
Our discipline procedure is to warn them of their behaviour twice before they are excluded from that particular exercise. They will be invited to rejoin once the Instructor or Coach sees fit. If this continues to happen the student will be asked to leave the class. Their conduct will be explained to them and they will be given the opportunity to make amends.
Bullying
Bullying is unpleasant and unfortunately present in all communities and it is this school's policy not to tolerate bullying whether it is physical or verbal/mental. It is also important that you recognise this behaviour and that you take steps to stop it. It is this school's aim to protect students from instances of bullying wherever possible and to promote ways to change the bully’s behaviour.
If all else fails they will be asked to leave. Parents will be advised as soon as a problem has become known/identified.
The bully’s strength is in you're contuinued silence and we encourage you to speak up if you are unhappy for any reason while at the school / workplace at home or in the dojo. Bullies come in many shapes and sizes and disguises.
Aims
To encourage “Good Will” and sportsmanship.
To reinforce any work that might have been done at another club/school.
To enable the student to share in the life of our martial arts school.
To encourage a sense of responsibility that will help nurture the development of self control, promote a sense of pride in their chosen martial art.
To encourage them to help others, by sharing training tips etc.
To be able to defend themselves, family and friends, should the need ever arise.
To help them keep fit and enjoy martial arts.
We strive to promote a family atmosphere and we teach our students that the martial arts are not just how to learn to fight; but how to learn to avoid having to fight.
Homework
From time to time students may be given homework; this is for their benefit to enable them to gain a better understanding of their chosen martial art. Occasionally they may be given a questionnaire or quiz it may be given out at class or be on the clubs web site, so internet access is needed. For those with no internet access, let Sensei know and a copy will be given to you. Students are under no obligation to complete these, but it will benefit them if they do so. It will give the Instructors and Coaches a better idea of how much their student has learnt.

Fire – In the event of the fire alarm sounding students must leave the building in an orderly fashion and assemble at the point your instructor will already have told you about this is usually in front of or at the side of the building, but a safe distance away.
Students and anyone who was in the training hall must not wander off, but must report to the Instructor who will register their presence as soon as they arrive. Try to stay calm and let Sensei check you all off slowly, this will avoid costly mistakes later.
This is to assist the Fire Service. THIS IS WHY EVERYONE IN THE TRAINING ROOM/DOJO. MUST BE INCLUDED ON THE ATTENDANCE SHEET. Even visitors.
Should any student find a fire they must immediately sound the alarm at the nearest call point, and then leave the building and
wait at the assembly point.
General Points
Before each lesson every student must help to put out the training mats
If the Instructor/Sensei asks.
If mats are being used, if they need to be adjusted as required please do it without being asked as this could prevent an injury to you or another student or instructor or coach.
Again if mats are being used; if your instructor at the end of the lesson asks for them to be correctly put away before bowing out or leaving the Dojo please co-operate and help put them away without damaging them, as they are very expensive to replace.
Students should endeavour to arrive before lesson time to enable lesson fees to be paid, registration to be done, and any other administration to be completed.
When standing in line or kneeling at the start or end of a class, or at any time you are in line, the student is expected to be quiet, still and listening.
No swearing or unruly behaviour.
No eating during training.
During training drinking is at the Instructor's discretion, ask when you need to take a drink so Sensei knows where you are. Some students try it on and use drinking as an opportunity for a rest. Being lazy in when you should be training benefits no one!!!
If the student needs to leave the Dojo for any reason they must inform the Instructor/Sensei.
Respect for your fellow students and Instructors must be upheld at all times.
